What to Wear to Your Headshot Session

Here are the Do's and Don'ts you need to know when deciding what you will wear for your photo session.

THINGS TO CONSIDER

  • Don't leave things to chance. Make sure to try on your outfit the day before your shoot to avoid last minute surprises.
  • Don’t overdress. Wear what makes you look (and feel) confident, professional, and positive.
  • Avoid busy patterns and large lines or stripes, but don’t be afraid of color.  When in doubt, bring an option and ask your photographer’s opinion.
  • Avoid colors that match your exact skin tone.
  • Make sure everything fits you well; not too big, not too tight.
  • For the best results, clothes should be neatly pressed and ironed when you arrive.
  • Be stylish and feel free to show your personality with what you wear, but remember your image is about capturing your expression, not your clothes.

HEY LADIES!

  • Layers work great, especially with subtle prints and flattering colors.
  • Keep jewelry simple if you have patterns or multiple layers.
  • Statement jewelry works great when the rest of the outfit is understated.
  • Sleeveless tops/dresses draw attention to your shoulders/arms.
  • Different necklines may change the apparent shape of your face!

HEY FELLAS!

  • The standard business look is a suit jacket, dress shirt, and tie.  Feel free to bring options if you’re unsure what to wear.
  • Casual business looks can be a jacket and an open dress shirt, dress shirt and tie or just a dress shirt.
  • For a no-jacket casual look, try to avoid white. Generally, a white dress shirt doesn’t warrant great results, unless worn under a jacket or sweater.
  • Polo shirts are a good look for some businesses. Be sure the shirt is in good condition and fits well!
