Hair and Make-up Tips For your Headshot Session
Here are a few general tips for when you are trying to look your best for your headshot session
Hair
- Avoid getting haircuts right before shooting. You may need some time to get used to styling a new cut.
- Do not try any new product on your hair (or skin) the day before your shoot- you could have a bad reaction!
- Bring a brush or comb with you. Things happen. And sometimes they happen right before you get in your car to get to your session.
- This is the time for hairspray if you are trying to tame those flyaways.
- Many of your shots will be straight on. If you are pulling some of your hair up, check the mirror. If you can't see it in the mirror, you won't see it in your photo.
Skin
- Beware the temptation to spray-tan or suntan the day before as well. If doing so schedule your tan 5 days before your session.
- Drinks lots of water and be well-rested so your skin will look its best.
- Be sure to gently exfoliate the night before.
- Try refraining from excessive caffeine and alcohol consumption the night or two before your session.
- Don’t shave right before the shoot- skin can get irritated from shaving.
Make-Up
- Make-up should be clean and natural.
- Steer clear of products with lots of shimmer, sparkle or shine, frosty finishes, or overly bright colors.
- Wear a layer of translucent powder so shine disappears.
- • Line lips before applying matte lipstick, then reline and keep it subtle.
- In the end, you should look like you! You're gorgeous and you want to be recognizable to anyone meeting you in person.
